"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
From the beginning of time we have heard about love. It is expressed differently through all cultures, and we have to acknowledge that it is more than a mere feeling. There are books, movies, plays, sermons, verses, poems and endless ways in which love is depicted. This year has gone by so quickly and it seems like I am always learning new things. Phases of discovery, growth, and through it all I come out knowing that love is above all. So, what is love and what does it mean? Love has different components and it is of strong people to truly love. Not everyone is capable of love or at least not to the same degree. Love is like the soil of our earth, some permeable and some so dry that the idea of hydration is just an illusion. However, if technology is advancing and capable of new things, so are we.
Where does love and creation begin? God being a master of art and communication allows us to feel and see things in more than one way. Starting with a physical realm. Biologically speaking, creation begins the moment two small cells unite as two is better than one. The history of generations meet and create a new being. The beginning of a new adventure, and it continues to evolve while being hosted by the mother’s body. The best hotel one can have until it is time to check-out, yet into a world of new possibilities. This new creation is born and new caregivers come into play. These caregivers are meant to nourish through protection, and then by providing the tools needed in order to have our best voyage. All of these conditions are essential to the growth of the infant, basic needs we all have.
Love, not solely a feeling must be practical. Love is nurturing when we are first born but it acquires knowledge as we grow. The infant doesn’t remain an infant. It grows too. We have to acknowledge the roles knowledge and responsibility have in doing so. The world around us is constantly evolving, so learning is a river that cannot become stagnant. Knowledge is hard because it requires looking inward to examine ourselves, and looking outward to grow with the world around us. This too requires responsibility to carry on. Not responsibility in the sense of an obligation or a burden, but responsibility to its highest form. When we care we feel responsible because we realize we want to be our best and empower others to be their own.
As the world around us grows we must continue to grow with it too. The need to learn in order to grow should press harder in our hearts than the option to let go. As we acknowledge our limitations nourishment will take place, because love is not chaotic, love is free but it always has in mind the best, so it requires discipline. Love can never be simple confinement in knowledge and responsibility, it is respectful too. Respect carries so much power. Respect is accepting yet conscious, firm yet loving, and confident. Confidence is essential. Real confidence is not a simple façade. As the song goes insecure people become insecure lovers because when differences come into play they don’t make love the easiest play. Whether a cesarean section or the need to push, it goes back to the very beginning and the need for strength through it all.
Love is strong and not everyone possesses the same strength, nor the same type, but just like lifting weights and eating the rights food can aid, so can our decisions and mentality help us in order to grow. So, we must honor ourselves otherwise we could be contradicting ourselves. Love is not easy, perhaps hard many times, love is not simply romantic, it goes beyond that, it has a deeper meaning. It possesses many characteristics, shades, some more tactile than others, but to live without love is to forget that life requires strength. Now, tell me, can you be strong enough to bring your best to the table? To care for your soil, to water your garden, to plant, to wait and be patient in order to harvest the best of it all? Acts of love from the moment we are born have required strength but our own lives are proof that it can be done.
