“All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renewed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.”
– J.R.R. Tolkien
Last December I was in Nashville celebrating my best friends’ “Last Hurrah”, it served different purposes because it was also a venue to celebrate the end of 2019 and the much-anticipated 2020. The trip was a blast, and each day was built of fun anecdotes, all those exciting moments which make up what we call Life. That’s part of the reason I love photography and all forms of art, they tell a story, they inspire something. With that being said, my last post for 2019 had a quote I heard that night (12.31.2019): “2019 was challenges 2020 will be the vision”. Little did I know the momentum it would carry onto the upcoming year.
While I can’t negate the challenges of this year it would be an injustice to let go of the growth. It has definitely been a year for vision, for making healthy decisions, cleaning weeds out of the garden, and pouring not just water but much needed vitamins in order to flourish. Sometimes it takes droughts to appreciate inundations, and cold winters to enjoy beaming summers. Life whether in Colombia, TX, or my now home CA has taught me the importance of being congruent and not losing one’s essence. Things happen, a pandemic happened, discordances happen, but how we conduct ourselves is not dictated by anyone else but ourselves. And just like gold, which doesn’t lose its composition, it only gets pure and brighter through fire, one must think golden. What is the purpose? Does it edify or demolish?
…Well, if in Nashville and there’s whiskey, enjoy it. Yes, it can be edifying in the moment, and demolishing the next day haha… so cheers to balance! Looking forward to 2021 just like I did for 2020!!
Dedicated to all my beautiful friends who make me think golden!
