“My mother said to me, ‘If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.’ Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.”
Pablo Picasso
Wednesdays are for wisdom, so internal compass it is. This is a topic close to my heart yet sometimes hard to verbalize, I will probably blog about it a couple of times…Imagine you are going on vacation however you can’t pack your bag until you know the destination. That’s what self-knowledge and awareness means to me, a tool to guide us. The lightwell of a building. It is through our internal compass that we can navigate the most violent storm. I contribute my mother for installing in me what I consider good principles, they’ve been my compass through life.
While traveling the path I chose it has made me realize doing what’s right is not always clear nor easy. Perhaps I am what you might refer to as “idealistic”, I prefer the word visionary, as it would be easier to be pessimistic and to expect the worst, thinking change is not possible. However, that would mean humans are incapable of growing, and that would be giving up on us, which I hope I never do. Afterall, what differentiates animals from humans is our capacity to rationalize and control our instincts.
We should be solely us and never a copy or cookie cutter, while empowering others to do the same. In this pursuit the road can be daunting but the gratification of it is all worth it, this enables our confidence to grow. I have learn many lessons through pursuing what I consider my truth. I have discover that I rather lose some battles than the war. It’s like learning to walk, we all fell down and yet we kept getting up, that is the definition of life. We can’t give up when the road gets tough, yet you have to make sure it is your road, your path, and not someone else’s.
