Suits Part 2: Expression

“For I conclude that the enemy is not lipstick, but guilt itself; that we deserve lipstick, if we want it, AND free speech; we deserve to be sexual AND serious–or whatever we please; we are entitled to wear cowboy boots to our own revolution.”

Naomi Wolf

The previous blog was about my background with fashion, now, let’s fast forward to the present. I like keeping up with trends related to art, really anything that allures to more beauty. Fashion is a form of expression and an art itself. Two trends that are big right now (besides all the 90s items) are suits and blazers, and athletic gear. Except with a different touch, sometimes more edgy or sultry. It couldn’t paint a more accurate picture of the current times and modern woman. As a woman myself I feel it represents how we are constantly on the go, all the plates we juggle, our full time job, yet our desire to stay beautiful and comfortable.

One of my favorite items from Brooks Brothers is a little navy suit dress I own. I fell for it the moment it arrived to the store, and now that I think about it, it symbolizes the idea of femininity at the workplace, the realization that they can coexist. Neither one has to be compromised instead they are better together. So times not only change, they must evolve. However, they evolve because of those who are bold enough to do something about it. Pioneers like Coco Chanel, who started the trend of women in suits long ago. A foreshadow of what was to come. White collar jobs have historically been dominated by men but this has been changing as more women become present in these jobs. Suits have been ahead of their times as they have always been unisex.

Change has been in the air for quite some time and equality doesn’t define the right term or solutions to what we are seeking. The reality is that we are not equal simply because we are all born and created to be unique. This goes beyond just gender, not two people are the same in any shape or form. So perhaps the right terminology should be fairness in order to respect our differences. So, how does one operate fairly? I believe it starts with open communication and active listening. In order to allow and impulse ourselves and others to reach our own potential. Unique to each of us like the measurements to our body and clothes.

Hi! I look forward to sharing topics and reading your thoughts :). I was born in Colombia, lived in TX for 12.5 years, and I now live in LA. Life has the tendency of throwing curveballs, and I've learned that preparation is of the essence. Preparation starts with knowing who we are, and what we want, the rest is history... I am a big admirer of art, artists, passion and creativity. Cheers to originality. I think all problems in life arise from communication. The solution is to become better listeners to ourselves, others, and hopefully be able to express and convey what we actually need… Art has the capacity of expressing what we can not at times. Art is not constricted to one thing... #thecircleoflife #letsgrowtogether
